Thank You Reception for Sandy Volunteers. Join us on Sunday March 10th 4pm – 6pm at Westbeth Gallery.

Some of you carried water up many flights. Some of you delivered hot meals. Some of you did whatever you were asked to do. All of you came to our assistance in the weeks after Sandy and Westbeth wants to say thank you. We hope you can join us for light refreshments, great conversation and a short program on March 10th. We want to meet those who came to our rescue and say thank you in person.
During the Sandy aftermath, we tried to get the name, e-mail or phone number of everyone who helped us but we know we missed many names. If you know of someone who helped and was not invited, please pass this on to them.

So we can better plan for refreshments, kindly let us know if you will be attending. Please send your name, and how many will be attending to

LOWER MANHATTAN CULTURAL CENTER OFFERS RESIDENCIES

Changing what it means to “work” in Lower Manhattan

Now in its 16th year, Workspace, one of LMCC’s artist programs, is a nine-month studio residency focused on creative process and professional development for emerging visual artists and writers. Through the program’s offerings—which include studio space, studio visits, talks and seminars, access to a network of peers, and public programs—Workspace encourages creative production, professional development, and community building in the early stages of an artist’s or writer’s career. Selected residents are expected to be active in their studio throughout the nine months by using the studio as a space for experimentation and dialogue.

LMCC has been able to address the critical need for affordable studio space in Manhattan by securing and adapting temporarily vacant office space Downtown in partnership with generous real estate owners. Since its inception in 1997 at the World Trade Center, Workspace has provided hundreds of artists and writers with studio space in some of the city’s most noted landmarks. Workspace studio locations change frequently, but are always located in Lower Manhattan. (See Past Sessions for locations).

SUPERSTORM SANDY EMERGENCY RELIEF RESOURCES

NEW!!

La Napoule Art Foundation is holding a special residency for artists affected by the hurricane this fall.

Residency for Artists Impacted by Hurricane Sandy

Deadline: March 15, 2013

Residency Dates: October 8 – November 5, 2013

Location: Château de La Napoule, Mandelieu-La Napoule, France

Overview: La Napoule Art Foundation (LNAF) will offer eight artists affected by Hurricane Sandy a month-long residency. This program will bring together artists with diverse experiences of a shared event for reflection, exchange, and creation.

The storm impacted artists in a variety of ways. For many, Sandy created a financial and emotional burden from damaged studios, homes, materials, or artwork. For others, however, the effects of the storm were less tangible. This residency offers artists renewed inspiration after disruption to the creative process, or simply a place to process what they witnessed during the storm. The residency is open to all who experienced and felt the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

Provisions: LNAF will provide selected artists with a $1,000 stipend as well as housing, studio space, and most meals.

For more information on La Napoule Art Foundation, facilities, and accommodations, please visit www.lnaf.org/residencies/upcoming-deadlines.
