“A painter and a lifelong New Yorker, Brenda grew up in Washington Heights and moved into the Westbeth Artists Housing … when it opened in 1970. She lived there for over fifty years, painting and raising her family. Beginning in the early 1950s she spent nearly every summer in Provincetown MA, in the artistic community there. … Brenda studied painting first at New York’s High School of Music & Art; … later she studied at Cooper Union, City College, and in classes with Hans Hofmann. She exhibited her work in galleries both in New York City and Provincetown. … Her work evolved over a lifetime dedicated to painting but her focus was on large, vividly colorful landscapes, bridging figurative and abstract. Brenda Horowitz’s paintings are in corporate and museum collections, including the Provincetown Arts Association & Museum, where in 2023 she was honored for artistic excellence.”
