CHRISTINA MAILE, PENNY JONES, NANCY GABOR, PAUL BINNERTS AND STEPHEN HALL featured in May 16 interactive performance tour at the Metropolitan Museum

Organized with the Metaverses Team artists Justine Williams, Vanessa Gilbert and others, and the Metropolitan Museum’s Media Center, the interactive tour featured prints, paintings, and voices of Westbeth artists.
Tour participants were given interactive Ipads which when placed in front of selected artwork, would show videos or sound collaborations with Westbeth and Metaverses artists.

The tour began in the Great Hall and travelled from Ancient Greek and Roman through Oceania, and African, to the Medieval galleries.

At each stop which was indicated on a map, the participants either heard the voices of Westbeth artists describing their involvement in art , or held up IPads and watched as the pieces in the museum were transformed into pieces by Westbeth artists.

VALERIE GHENT’S receives rave review for her performance at Joe’s Pub, NYC on May 1, 2014

Ghent’s show was enthralling and pure excitement. She did a great job with the vocals and drawing the entire audience into the fun. Like I mentioned earlier, her back-up vocalists were superb and her band spectacular. Definitely recommended if you like feel-good rock. – NEW YORK CABARET

WESTBETH GALLERY – CALL FOR PROPOSALS 2015. Deadline May 31, 2014

CALL FOR EXHIBITION PROPOSALS

Background
The Westbeth Gallery is a nonprofit fine arts gallery located within Westbeth Artist Housing in the Far West Village in Manhattan. The mission of the gallery is to offer the opportunity for the general public to see the work of the residents of Westbeth and to serve the larger community by presenting work of emerging artists, work of mid-career or senior artists, work that is underrepresented in commercial galleries or curated shows that present work in new and interesting ways. The gallery is operated by the Westbeth Artists Residents Council which is a volunteer organization elected by the residents of the building. As such, exhibitors are given quite a bit of latitude in the content and arrangement of their work once it is selected and are expected to work independently to curate, market and install their exhibition professionally.

The gallery is seeking proposals from institutions, curators or individual artists for public exhibitions. Preference is given to proposals that highlight underserved artistic communities; which frame traditional artistic forms in new ways or which contextualize some aspect of Westbeth’s artistic or architectural history. Preference is also given to resident artists for at least half of the exhibition slots each season. Proposed exhibitions should be composed of artwork that is the product of professional artists. Student or community-made artwork is not being presented by Westbeth Gallery at this time.

Please submit the following:
• 250 word statement of your proposed exhibition
• 250 words on your marketing strategy and audience for this show
