La Napoule Art Foundation is holding a special residency for artists affected by the hurricane this fall.

Residency for Artists Impacted by Hurricane Sandy

Deadline: March 15, 2013

Residency Dates: October 8 – November 5, 2013

Location: Château de La Napoule, Mandelieu-La Napoule, France

Overview: La Napoule Art Foundation (LNAF) will offer eight artists affected by Hurricane Sandy a month-long residency. This program will bring together artists with diverse experiences of a shared event for reflection, exchange, and creation.

The storm impacted artists in a variety of ways. For many, Sandy created a financial and emotional burden from damaged studios, homes, materials, or artwork. For others, however, the effects of the storm were less tangible. This residency offers artists renewed inspiration after disruption to the creative process, or simply a place to process what they witnessed during the storm. The residency is open to all who experienced and felt the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

Provisions: LNAF will provide selected artists with a $1,000 stipend as well as housing, studio space, and most meals.

For more information on La Napoule Art Foundation, facilities, and accommodations, please visit www.lnaf.org/residencies/upcoming-deadlines.

PROJECT HOPE free counseling for artists affected by Sandy

My name is Andrea Stefens. I am a crisis counselor with Project Hope. Project Hope is under the auspices of FEGS Health and Human Services and is funded by a grant from FEMA to pair with organizations around NYC to provide free and confidential counseling services to individuals and communities recovering from hurricane Sandy.

On a personal note, I am also a performing artist and drama therapist, so reading about the consequences of Hurricane Sandy on Westbeth artists has really touched me. I wanted to reach out in the hopes that we (my Project Hope team and I) may be able to work with Westbeth in terms of identifying some of the possible emotional needs of your community. We are a growing team of multidisciplinary individuals — social workers, counselors, art therapists, drama therapists, educators, and individuals from targeted communities — focused on providing supportive counseling and education on normal reactions to abnormal situations as well as helping to identify and enhance coping skills. We can provide one-on-one brief counseling with individuals or families in the community as well as group sessions, psychoeducational, and supportive programming for adults, children, service providers, and/or more specialized populations.

These services are offered free of charge. I am attaching a flyer to give you a more specific idea of the services we offer. Please let me know if you feel there is anything we can do for you or your community.
