Elena Borstein — Painting

In "Veils of the City", Elena Borstein explores the interplay between architectural form and the shifting nature of perception, Beginning with appropriated photographs of contemporary architecture, these images are subjected to a process of digital transformation-fracturing, layering, and reframing the original structures. The reimagined cityscapes are then translated through traditional methods into pastel drawings and large scale acrylic airbrush paintings. The resulting works hover between precision and fluidity: rigid grids intersect with translucent planes of color, and the solidity of steel and glass gives way to luminous, dreamlike veils. Each composition invites the viewer to look beyond the physical city towards the inner, atmospheric landscape where reflections , memory and light reshape our experience of urban space. Her work is in the collections of major museums such as the Museum of Modern Art, The Newark Museum and the Hayden Museum of M.I.T.
