FIGURING ABSTRACTION

Jackie Lipton Show

The curators Jackie Lipton and Olivia Beens present 15 artists in this time of cultural flux whose work push traditional ways of thinking.

There are no borders! Variations span stylistic expressions in a range of materials, concepts, and processes. These younger, and mid-career artists explore inner and outer worlds through mythical, abstract and tangible spaces. The art collectively reflects a passionate, visible connection to life and art, the past and present. The artists presented in “Figuring Abstraction” range from pure abstractionists to figurative artists and those who use elements from both realms simultaneously. We aim to initiate dialogues that break with the familiar territories of abstraction vs. figuration. This exhibition brings together artists from disparate disciplines and varied philosophies sharing inexplicable artistic sensibilities that break traditional boundaries of abstraction and figuration. The paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and film installation collected for this exhibition weave themselves into our present awareness through reverberating patterns, shared dreams, and ideas.
