Westbeth celebrates the Westbeth artists whose personal journeys intersected with their art practice creating work that broadened our world.

Barbara Hammer photographer and filmmaker

Hammer was an American feminist film director, producer, writer, and cinematographer. One of the pioneers of lesbian film genre, whose career spanned over 50 years, Hammer is known for having created experimental films dealing with women’s issues such as gender roles, lesbian relationships and coping with aging.

David Del Tredici composer

David Walter Del Tredici is an American composer. He has won a Pulitzer Prize for Music and is a former Guggenheim and Woodrow Wilson fellow. Del Tredici is considered a pioneer of the Neo-Romantic movement.

Edward Field poet

Edward Field won an Academy Award for writing narration for the documentary film To Be Alive (1965). His other awards include the Lamont Award from the Academy of American Poets, the Shelley Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America, the Prix de Rome , and the Lambda Literary Award.

Karen Ludwig actress, playwright, filmmaker

Karen Ludwig has appeared in films including “Manahttan” , wrote plays produced by HB Studios, and produced and directed a film, “Uta Hagen’s Acting Class”, about the legendary acting teacher. She has led a group of women writers and performers called Stories Around the Table for over 40 years.

Roger Braimon artist and illustrator

Roger Braimon’s rich and expressive watercolors filled with vibrant blocks of color explore issues of display and private spectacle. Roger also served for many years as the President of the Westbeth Artists Residents Council and is its in-house graphic designer.
