You may have heard that Related is seeking to rezone the Western Rail Yards at the north end of the High Line (the area between West 30th and 34th Streets, and 11th Avenue and 12th Avenues.) They are proposing to build a large new development there, possibly including a casino. The New York Times published an informative story. You can read it here.

The High Line is asking for your support. Friends of the High Line is leading a campaign that opposes some of the changes that the developer seeks because of their impact on the park and the surrounding community.

This campaign is about ensuring that elected officials hear and address community concerns.

Background:

In 2009, the community and developers agreed to a development plan that would allow for new housing, accessible open space and other community amenities. This year, the developer is seeking a new rezoning to allow for much taller buildings, less housing, and a giant podium that would overwhelm the northern stretch of the High Line park.
