Old and New, Classical and Jazz, Rehearsed and Improvised

Jason Mathena is a versatile, creative, and energetic performer both as a freelance ensemble and solo artist as well as a member of various orchestras and other ensembles. Currently, he is Assistant Principal Percussion/Principal Drum Set with the Mississippi Symphony and Opera Mississippi and Principal Percussion of the Endless Mountain Music Festival and Natchez/FestivalSouth Chamber Orchestra. During the last 20 years of deep south living in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi, Jason has been a founding member of many small combos with unique and quirky names such as The Wild Hares, Natural Harmonix, and The Vibe Doctors, Mo’ Jazz, and The Luvtones. These groups all specialized in traditional and modern Jazz along with various popular styles.

Veronica Parrales, cellist and pianist, is a native Nuyorican from Loisaida. She attended both Manhattan School of Music and Purchase Conservatory for cello performance, and completed graduate studies at Empire State College, Hunter College, and Rutgers University. Over the past decade she has served as the principal cellist of the Mississippi Symphony, assistant principal at Baton Rouge Symphony, and ballet accompanist at Belhaven University. As a versatile and intuitive performer and improviser, Veronica has collaborated with renowned artists across the country as well as in major New York City venues. She is predominantly interested in finding connections between old and new music, and exploring the musicality of songbirds.
