Ellie Kusner has been teaching pilates to people of diverse movement experiences, physical abilities and health backgrounds for over 20 years. She began her own pilates practice as a student of the Boston Ballet in the 1990’s. After graduating from Barnard College, she pursued a freelance dance career and quickly found that teaching pilates was an ideal way to financially and physically support her performing life while honoring her knowledge of the human body in motion. Ellie is a faculty member of the Dance Department at The Juilliard School, where among other things, she teaches pilates and runs a pilates teacher training program. She holds an MSc in Dance Science which contributes a scientific, evidenced-based perspective to her pedagogy. Her classes encourage movement specificity and robust physicality while cultivating a deep, integrated connection to the mind, body and spirit through the use of rich, anatomically-informed imagery.
