Westbeth and Village Voices installation

September 21, 2022 - October 30, 2022

VILLAGE VOICES 2022, produced by the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, is an installation of 24 public art exhibits displayed throughout Greenwich Village, the East Village, and NoHo. It features photographs, artistic creations, artifacts, and soundscape recordings that tell the story of some of the incredible history-making people and events connected to sites throughout our neighborhoods.

This includes 22 place-based “shadow boxes,” a 20-ft-high window installation at 70 Fifth Avenue, and an interactive “Monument to Choice” at Gansevoort Plaza. Scannable QR codes at each location allow you to hear and find out more about the course-of-history-changing people and events connected to these sites.

At Westbeth two shadow boxes have been installed at the Bethune St planter boxes. They celebrate the connection of Westbeth to the dance companies of Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham. On the wall of the building is a poster that describes the history of Westbeth, designed by Roger Braimon.
