Astonishment at the beauty of natural forms is the force that starts all of my work in art.
I work directly from the observation of objects collected from woods, seashores, or within New York city.

Painting in the full daylight of my studio in Westbeth, I see each object entirely in itself, without associations.
Its material existence, or its essence, would have been possible at any other time or place.

To be able to see things this way is a tremendous human freedom.
