At Westbeth Gallery: ALL ABOUT DRAWING

March 10 – March 25, 2012

Opening Reception: Saturday March 10th, 5-8 pm

The exhibition “All About Drawing” features four artists Sandra Caplan, Ray Ciarrocchi, Sonia Gechtoff and Regina Granne, for whom the primacy of drawing is alone a major element of their work.

The act of the drawing hand is exceptional in its ability to convey sensitivity and
singularity of touch with an economy of means. The drawings in this exhibition reveal
essentially black and white tonalities, while in some works there are indications of color.
Each artist, although divergent in approach and subject, presents a unique and particular
vision.

Sandra Caplan’s complex and intricate conceptions of multifaceted still lifes are
rare and distinctive explorations of familiar objects in a dense, closed space.

Ray Ciarrocchi’s moody, dark, late light landscapes of Italy and America in
charcoal and pastel, are poetic yet forceful in execution .

Sonia Gechtoff… “Drawing is a major force, not just a companion to painting.”

Regina Granne’s two bodies of work differ in subject, but share a profound
commitment to purity of line and the dynamics of perception.

All of the drawings in this exhibition are complete. They are not sketches or preliminary
scaffolds of ideas. Each is to be seen on its own as an absolute and total experience
