Westbeth, an artists’ community established 41 years ago, presents music by its residents in a three-day festival on Friday, Sept. 23rd in the Brecht Forum, and Saturday, September 24th and Sunday, Sept. 25th in the outdoor courtyard on Bank Street. The music is an exciting and eclectic range of genres from world-renowned classical composers David del Tredici and Richard Hundley to New York’s Soul Man Bobby Harden and his 8-piece soul band (get up and DANCE!).

Last year at the 40th Anniversary Westbeth Festival Ralph Lee paraded his phantasmagoric puppets accompanied by Michael Moss’ band ZONE. Highlights also included Women of the Calabash, Singer/Song-Writer Valerie Ghent, Bob Dorough, Chris Hunter, and Eve Zanni. The Westbeth Jazz Allstars once again amazed us all with high intensity and spirit driven by world famous jazz drummer Nasheet Waits.

Artists this year include in order of appearance:

FRIDAY (Brecht Forum):

Teri Roiger, John Menegon & Patrick McKearn; Marie McAuliffe.

SATURDAY (Courtyard):

Barry Temkin Raytones, Kara Gamble & Alec Stephen, Jim Satten, David del Tredici, Richard Hundley, Arlene Gottfried, Dave Mann, Stan + Ari Satlin, Prez Ike.

SUNDAY (Courtyard):

Hal Miller, Steve Berger w/ Bob Dorough and Pat O’Leary, 3Spirit, Bobby Harden, Valerie Ghent, Michael Moss’ ZONE, Eve Zanni’s Jazzmundo, Julian Maile, Mike Holover’s Brass Ensemble. and surprise guests!

Visitors will experience world class Jazz, Brazilian, Blues, Soul, Rockabilly, Classical, Country, Indie-Rock, Flamenco, Electronic and multi-media performances celebrating the diversity and high intensity talent of Westbeth musicians all set in the family-friendly historic outdoor Courtyard. Sit back, enjoy, purchase refreshments or get up and dance!

The Westbeth Gallery will also be open during the Festival presenting a Group Show by David Gillison/Charlie Seplowin: “Lehman Downtown.” Participating artists are faculty members of Lehman College Art Department and members of the Lehman College Gallery.
