Terence Burk — Actor and Writer

After graduating Southern Illinois University, moving to Chicago teaching emotionally disturbed kids for two years and finding more of himself there, Burk finally turned again to acting after doing several plays at University. In Chicago first doing “Our Town” and “The Four Deuces”, a take on the “Three Penny Opera” playing a young Al Capone in a musical at the Jane Adams Theatre. Then to the Kingston Mines Theatre as Buffalo Bill in “Indians” before turning to “The Tavern” playing the Sheriff with the wonderful Tammy Grimes and Brian Bedford directed by Jack O’Brian. Then “Why I Love Opal” with Martha Raye at Pheasant Run.

Time for the big move to New York to work with Uta Hagen for 5 years while at Judson Poets theatre with Al Carmines doing “Religion” “The Future” “Sacred And Profane Love” “Why I Love New York” “The Agony of Paul” and “The Songs of Al Carmines” in Provincetown and Studio Arena Theatre in Buffalo.

Off Broadway includes “Crime and Punishment” at the Harold Clurman Theatre. Readings for “The Great American Desert” as Billy The Kid at Westbeth Theatre Co. and “Act Two” for Eric Bentley. Broadway called and “Equus” followed, first with Richard Burton, then Tony Perkins, Alec McGowan, and Leonard Nimoy at the Plymouth and then the Helen Hayes Theatre staying for almost two years before accepting a contract to Universal Studios for seven years, only staying two years in L.A., but was on “Six Million Dollar Man”, “S.W.I.T.C.H. with Robert Wagner and “Emergency” in a pilot called “Medic One Seattle,” and several others. Then back in New York on Daytime: “Loving” Ted, a recurring role, “One Life to Live” “Another World” “The Doctors” and “The Guiding Light.”

TV credits include “Americas Most Wanted” “Third Watch” (Walsh) and “Law And Order” episodes: “C.O.D”.as Murray K., “Performance” as Mr. Marx. Besides acting, also a playwright and novelist. His play “The Flower Palace,” written while a member of City Rep. Theatre Co., was first performed in a reading two nights at Westbeth Theatre with the great Kate Reid and Helen Gallagher. He also toured the city in “The Marriage Proposal” by Chekhov, for City Rep. and also toured twice with Brian Bedford with his one man Shakespeare show as Stage Manager at several universities in Canada and the U.S.

Burk is currently working on a new novel as well as a screenplay for his first novel, “Cast Iron Kate.”
