Drummer Nasheet Waits is the winner of Downbeat Magazine’s Critics Poll Rising Star Drummer of 2011! Son of the legendary drummer Freddie Waits, Nasheet grew up in the Village, in Westbeth and is one of the leading young drummers on the international jazz scene today. He leads his own group Equality and co leads TARBABY with Orrin Evans and Eric Revis as well as 3rd Eye with Abraham Burton and Eric McPherson. The list of musicians Nasheet has accompanied is a veritable who’s who in jazz. He has worked with many greats including Max Roach, Andrew Hill, Jackie Mclean, Eddie Gomez, Peter Brotzmann David Murray, Fred Hersch, and the list goes on.  Waits has also been part of the flagship band Jason Moran and The Bandwagon since it’s inception. He will be performing in the Festival with guitarist Gabby Abularach.
