Nora Ligorano — Visual Art, Installation, Multi-media

NORA LIGORANO studied painting and art history at the Maryland Institute, College of Art, receiving a BFA cum laude in fine art. She is a conceptual artist who works in different media and collaborates with MARSHALL REESE as LIGORANO REESE.

The artists work in a range of media and technologies often embedding the concept of time in the materials they utilize and the processes they employ in works such as lenticular clocks, melting ice sculptures, fiber optic tapestries, and glass globes filled with sand.

Articles about their work have been published in the New York Times, Art Forum, Art In America, the Huffington Post, and seen on television and other media. They have received awards and grants including 3 NYFA fellowships as well as a NEA fellowship, two Jerome Foundation Fellowships, a Puffin grant and a number of artists residencies. They are represented by Catharine Clark Gallery and show edition work with Jim Kempner Fine Art.

Truth Be Told 2018, National Mall, Washington, D.C. After launching Truth Be Told on the anniversary of the Trump administration in January 2019 in New York, Ligorano Reese knew the next step had to be to take it to Washington. After over 2 months in discussions with the National Park Service Ligorano Reese found the perfect location – on the National Mall with the U.S. Capitol behind it.

The artists invited prominent D.C. writers and poets to join them in front of their sculpture, posting their commentary and texts live onto this website and related social media. The artists streamed Truth Be Told to a network of museums and galleries across the country, joining For Freedoms 50 States Initiative for the feed.
Borrowed Time video of clocks representing the four time zones of the contiguous United States: Pacific Standard Time Zone, Mountain Standand Time Zone, Central Standard Time Zone and Eastern Standard Time Zone. The clocks shift from bucolic landscapes to climate disasters.
Orb spider from Vanishing Finish, 2024, 24.5 x 23 inches, edition of 2 + 1 AP, cyanotype on Sekishu 30 gr paper. Vanishing Finish is a series of 49 cyanotype prints of endangered keystone species selected from the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s Red List. Keystone species are land animals, insects, sea life, plants and bacteria at the apex of their habitat and ecological community. Their disappearance and loss devastates the ecosystem.
50 Different Minds, 2012, 50 x 50 inches, Woven fiber optic textile, custom hardware and software, Twitter and air flight data, internet. The first of the data tapestries, 50 Different Minds’ algorithms interpret live internet data through a suite of color and movement.
