Gary Friedman — Graphic Design/Illustration
Grew up a beach bum in Miami Beach, studied graphic design at the University of Florida and photography with
Jerry N. Uelsmann. After a couple of years of work experience in New York City and evening division study at the
School of Visual Arts, including a course with Milton Glaser and Henry Wolf, and a course in Alexey Brodovitch's
Design Laboratory, I started my own free-lance graphics and illustration studio which I called GRAF/X and
I've never seen anyone else's work that looked the same. Major influence from the collages of Max Ernst,
Eastern European poster design, and the photomontages of Jerry N. Uelsmann.
