By visualizing sounds like human screams, serializing autobiographical data such as her reproductive history, or collecting shared experiences like first sexual encounters, Valérie Hallier's work redefines portraiture in the forms of mixed-media series, immersive installations and interactive public art.

Recent and current projects explore losing control as a way to reconnect with her intrinsic nature and condition. Process oriented and time intensive, the techniques deployed are repetitive, compulsive and meditative, when working with beads, recycled packaging, flower petals and pixels. Each project explores the absurdity and the poetry within the process of exhaustive study, revealing the tension between a humanistic and a mechanistic sense of Being.
