For more than a decade I have made paintings and installations that reference found vernacular photographs. I am interested in what these discarded physical objects represented both emotionally and culturally. I rediscover and resurrect the people I find in lost photo albums --exploring the color snapshot era of the last 30 years. I contracted Covid last spring - after a few feverish nights an idea sparked my new painting project-- World Traveler / Shelter at Home. I had 27 boxes of vintage travel slides found in an Asbury Park thrift store documenting one person's lifelong travels. It was the perfect time to paint far flung adventures as I sheltered at home. This painting series is both an homage to the life of one individual and a somber reflection of our collective loss of freedom during the pandemic.
