DESCRIPTION:Michael Moss photo credit: Scott Friedlander \nJudith Moss photo credit: Karen Robbins \n\nSaturday\, October 22 at 7:30 pm\nReservations: 646-396-7802\nTickets: $20 cash only at the door\nSt. John’s in the Village\n218 West 11 Street\, NY 10014 \nMichael Moss conducts Bows – Ensemble for Strings and Piano and Judith Moss\, dancing her solo “Undocumented/Crossing Borders”\, join forces to present a music and dance concert infused with the history of the Holocaust and the spirit and remembrance of family members.   \nEnsemble musicians: Trina Basu\, Jake Charkey\, Ratzo Harris\, Rosi Hertlein\, Alexandra\nHonigsberg\, Jon Kass\, Alexis Marcelo\, Lenny Mims\, Sana Nagano\, Liz Taub. \nReed player/composer Michael Moss has been actively involved in the music scene for many years\, leading his own musical groups including Mike Moss/4 Rivers\, Free Energy\, the Accidental Orchestra\, a 22-piece renaissance jazz orchestra\, ROOTS to SHOOTS\, and currently Bows Ensemble for Strings and Piano. Collaborations include electroacoustic composer James Dashow\, choreographer Judith Moss\, storyteller Regina Ress\, and playwright Domnica Radulescu. Numerous grants include Meet the Composer (NewMusicUSA)\, NYSCA\, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC)\, RESTARTNY grant from LMCC for 2021 and CREATE Council on the Arts in 2022. His record label\, Fourth Stream Records\, has produced multiple LPs\, cassettes\, and CDs including Upstream\, Cross Current\, Live at ACIA\, Pyramid\, Intervals\, New York Free Quartet (Free Play\, Dream Time\, and In Between Gigs)\, and HELIX by the Accidental Orchestra.  Performances and commissions are wide-ranging\, including Little Island\, Bridge Street Theatre\, Turks and Caicos Friends of the Arts Foundation\, New York Jazz Loft Celebrations\, Isthmus Jazz Festival and Westbeth Music Festivals. Moss holds a Ph.D. in Psychology. \nJudith Moss began dancing in NYC as a child with the Paul Sanasardo­/Donya Feuer Children¹s Dance Company and danced with the Paul Sanasardo Dance Company in high school. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin—Madison\, she joined Dan Wagoner and Dancers\, touring worldwide to Europe and South America\, including a State Department tour to India\, Sri Lanka\, and Pakistan. She has worked as a guest artist in choreography at numerous universities\, including University of Nevada–Las Vegas\, Muhlenberg College\, Dickinson College\, Hofstra University\, Franklin and Marshall College\, Florida International University\, and Beloit College. As a freelance artist\, she has conducted workshops and classes extensively throughout the country as well as abroad\, including Hong Kong\, Turks and Caicos\, Alaska\, and throughout Europe. Judith Moss has held faculty positions at New York University\, University of Wisconsin—Madison\, Washington & Lee University\, Temple University\, Hofstra University and currently teaches at Queensborough Community College. A recipient of choreographic fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and state arts council grants in New York\, Wisconsin\, and Pennsylvania\, she has created more than fifty dances\, including works for Judith Moss and Dancers\, repertory companies\, and college dance departments. \nFAMILY THREADS is made possible in part with public funds from\nRESTARTNY\, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural\nAffairs in partnership with the City Council.

My dear friend and piano champion Marc Peloquin will be performing my solo piano suite Mandango.”\n– David Del Tredici    \nThis program celebrates David’s brilliant artistry as an an openly and uninhibited gay composer and performer who has opened the door to future generations of LGBTQ+ classical musicians. The major work will be his piano suite\, Mandango\, consisting of five movements dedicated to gay couples who are friends of his as well as an homage to his mentor Aaron Copland. \nAlso included on the program will be Recollections\, a post-impressionistic and deeply poetic work by composer and pianist Robert Helps\, one of the most significant influences in David’s life.
