He studied classical voice and music for many years in his homeland at The Key Academy of Music and Alfred Wallace’s School of Music. As actor he trained at LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting (NYC) where he graduated from the three-year professional conservatory. Operatic roles performed include Tamino in Die Zauberflote (Mozart)\, Hoffmann in Les contes d’Hoffmann (Offenbach)\, Alfred in Die Fledermaus (Strauss II) and Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas (Purcell). He also interpreted musical theater roles including Tony in West Side Story and Marius in (the Caribbean premiere of) Les Miserables. NYC acting credits include Antonio in The Merchant of Venice (Shakespeare)\, Sorin in The Seagull (Chekov) and the title role in Othello (Shakespeare). In 2021 Raguel successfully launched RTG productions with a multi camera internationally live streamed performance of Franz Schubert’s entire ‘Schwanengesang’\, from Merkin Hall in NYC. Recent awards include the Gold Prize with the 2023 World Classical Music Awards (Season 2) and 2nd prize at the Sinfonietta Bel Canto Orchestra’s 2022 Vocal Competition in Chicago. He also won at the CS Music Vocal Competition (Chicago 2022)\, Marker and Pioneer International Competition (LA 2022) and is a past double category winner (Operatic and Musical) at Trinidad and Tobago’s prestigious Music Festival. Following his 2023 recital ‘Night and Dreams’ he returns to Greenwich House NYC this fall with ‘Absence’ a recital of French melodies. Raguel is currently based in New York City. His career has included chamber music\, vocal coaching and accompanying\, solo performances\, and teaching. Middleton’s debut recital at the Weill Hall at the prestigious Carnegie Hall was presented by Artists International Inc. In addition to the music of J.S. Bach\, he has a special interest in the music of living composers and has recorded piano music of Joseph Fennimore and chamber music of George Walker. He has toured Taiwan\, Switzerland and South Africa among other countries. In 2021 Middleton received the Mae L. Wien Faculty Award for distinguished service from the School of American Ballet\, where he retired after thirty-six years on the Faculty. Since meeting composer Joseph Fennimore in the mid 1980’s\, Mr. Middleton has been studying and performing his music. In addition to Cathay and Twenty Four Romances for Solo Piano\, he has directed a production of Fennimore’s Eventide\, a three-character opera adapted from a text by James Purdy\, at the Harlem School of the Arts. He also performed Molinos de Viento\, a piano trio based on Hispanic themes\, and many other works. He also worked for more than 20 years as vocal coach/accompanist for Betty Allen’s Master Voice Class at the Harlem School of the Arts. Last year with his fourth album for Albany Records “Jeffrey Middleton plays Fennimore and Debussy” he recorded two works by Joseph Fennimore and Debussy’s Douze Études. He looks forward to the upcoming digital re-release of his acclaimed recordings of Bach’s The Well Tempered Clavier Book 2.
