During that time their music has taken many exciting twists and turns. Teri is a jazz vocalist\, but also plays piano\, composes music\, and writes lyrics. John is a jazz bassist\, but is also a guitarist\, arranger\, singer\, and composer (music & lyrics). They have performed as a DUO throughout the U.S.\, Canada\, Mexico\, and Europe\, and have been featured artists at the San Miguel Jazz Festival (Mexico)\, Panama Jazz Festival (Panama)\, and Bolzano Jazz Festival (Italy)\, where they presented concerts and masterclasses. The depth of their experiences and love of jazz is apparent when they bring all their talents to live performances\, the recording studio\, and through their moving lyrics and compositions. They have also been sharing their knowledge and inspiration with their diverse students for over 25 years. Their numerous recordings have all met with critical acclaim\, as have their live performances at festivals and top New York jazz spots (Birdland\, Kitano\, Dizzy’s\, Mezzrow\, Jazz Standard\, Café Bohemia). \nIn 2021 Teri & John released an album SHINE A BRIGHT LIGHT on their new label Valley Jazz Records with a new group called SHARP 5\, a collaboration with Pete Levin\, Nanny Assis & Jeff Siegel. Teri’s previous releases include GHOST OF YESTERDAY: SHADES OF LADY DAY where Teri showcases her uncommon knowledge\, appreciation\, and deep love for the artistry of Billie Holiday. Her recording DEAR ABBEY: THE MUSIC OF ABBEY LINCOLN with arrangements by Menegon\, met with great critical acclaim\, as did STILL LIFE where her composition “Still Life” won 3rd prize in the jazz category of the acclaimed songwriting competition ISC. Teri & John’s first collaboration\, MISTERIOSO\, included jazz legends Jack DeJohnette and Kenny Burrell\, and Teri was given permission to publish her own lyrics to Monk’s iconic composition “Misterioso.” \nJohn spent ten years playing and recording with jazz legends David “Fathead” Newman and Dewey Redman\, and currently plays with jazz legend Joe Lovano as well as leading his own band. He has released five CDs as a leader\, including “I Remember You” (a dedication to Redman and Newman) with a four-star review in Downbeat\, and his latest “Quartet East: Blew By Blues\,” a dedication to Charlie Haden. \nSTEVE BERGER (guitarist) New Jersey born Berger studied with Barry Harris and Tal Farlow and has been active as an accompanist\, sideman & leader in the New York music scene for the past several decades. He toured and performed with the late\, great Bob Dorough for over 30 years\, and was house bandleader for 16 years at Arturo’s in Greenwich Village. Currently he is actively playing in a Trio in New York City with vocalist Teri Roiger & bassist John Menegon. \nIn the event of rain\, concert will take place in the Westbeth Community Room. SUMMARY:Penny Jones & Company: Boxes to Buildings Workshop
DESCRIPTION:DUE TO UNAVAILABILITY OF COMMUNITY ROOM\, WORKSHOP CANCELLED\nBoxes to Buildings Workshop\nTuesdays June 14 – 28\, 2022\n3:30PM – 5:30PM \nWestbeth Community Room\n155 Bank St\nNew York\, NY enter through courtyard \nRegistration required. \nPROOF OF VACCINATION REQUIRED AT DOOR BEFORE ENTRY\n. \nPenny Jones is the founder of Penny Jones & Company Puppets: Early Childhood Theater\, a legendary puppet show that has been in performance for over 40 years. Her hand-made puppets were recently featured in Puppets of New York City exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York. \nPenny Jones excerpt from Profiles in Art Interview:\nWhen I was working with other people’s puppet shows\, they were geared to older audiences\, but younger children came. And somebody made the rather mean joke that you could tell the success of the show by counting the puddles left by the youngest children in the front row\, due to overexcitement. I thought\, That’s terrible! I realized nobody is writing for that age\, respecting that age. So I determined when I went out myself that I would focus on that age. I had a child that age. I really identified with it. I wanted to produce shows which would capture their imagination\, which wouldn’t scare them\, which would move them\, which would not treat them like second-class citizens. And so I thought about it. I thought they have more fun when they’re sitting together as a group than when they’re sitting in chairs that are too big for them in between adults. They like to laugh. They need to exercise during the show. It’s too long for them to sit through a whole show. So we invent games that will exercise them without having to get up and run around. That’s why every show has a hand game. And they naturally want to participate. They say hello to the puppet when they see it. They don’t understand that you’re supposed to be a listener\, a watcher\, and not participate. \nAs I developed the different shows\, I kept thinking of various ways that would allow them to participate. \nRead entire interview with Terry Stoller Penny Jones\npuppeteer \nPenny Jones Westbeth Icon – See the film made about her as part of the Westbeth Icon Series\nVisit: Penny Jones Westbeth Icon \nMore Information about Penny Jones & Company Puppets\nVisit: Penny Jones & Company

SUMMARY:Westbeth Icon Evening : Hans Haacke
DESCRIPTION:Thursday May 12 at 7PM\nWestbeth Community Room\n155 Bank St. (enter through courtyard)\nNew York\, NY 10014\nFREE\nMASKS ARE REQUIRED. \nHans Haacke largely invented modern ‘artivism’ as a political strategy for conceptual artists. His work intervenes through the space of the museum or gallery to decry the influence of corporations on society and reveal the hypocrisy of liberal institutions accepting sponsorship from aggressive and conservative capitalists. This work has been immensely significant in prefiguring the modern challenge to ‘artwashing’\, the attempted diversion from harmful business practices through philanthropic engagement with the arts. \nHaacke’s politics extend to his artistic career\, providing a principled example to artists and audiences. He still maintains partial ownership over his artworks after sale\, for example\, allowing him a measure of control over the extent to which his protest can be coopted by the art market. As a teacher and writer Haacke’s influence is not only in the work he directly produced himself\, but in the dissemination of his political strategies through later generations of artists. Haacke’s fearlessness and refusal to bend in relation to institutional pressure has had an enduring legacy that persists to this day. \n– The Art Story \nWestbeth Icons is a project that celebrates the life and work of senior Westbeth artists who continue to work passionately in their artistic field. It is produced by the Westbeth Artists Residents Council. \nThe Icon evening features a filmed interview produced and directed by Ted Timreck with Terry Stoller\, interviewer\, as well as tributes by colleagues of the artist and words by the honoree. A special Icon gift is presented to the artist at the close of the evening. \nSee more Westbeth Icons at Westbeth Icons

In Liz Garbus’s telling\, Simone’s talent and personality shine through\, as gloriously singular\, and uncontrollable\, as ever.” \nManohla Dargis of The New York Times cited the film’s relevance\, calling it an “often electric\, bracingly urgent documentary.
