SUMMARY:Eve Zanni Musical Alchemy First Fridays at Westbeth
DESCRIPTION:Friday Sept 11\, 2026 at 7pm \nFREE \nWestbeth Community Room\n155 Bank Street\nenter through courtyard and under scaffolding\nNew York 10014 \n \nIn 1993\, Isaac Raz composed the score for the Emmy Award–winning documentary Pioneer Women\, directed by Nancy Cooperstein.\nAs a keyboardist\, producer\, and arranger\, he contributed to Impressions of Miles Davis by Teo Macero and performed on recordings by R&B artist Joe.\nIn 2013\, Raz founded Whole Music LLC with colleague Steven Felsenfeld. The organization was created to provide holistic music instruction integrating emotional\, cognitive\, and physical dimensions of learning. Its pedagogical philosophy emphasizes music as a complete language—combining theory\, improvisation\, composition\, and individualized practice. Raz has articulated the view that musical practice is essential to the wellbeing of the whole person\, and is integral to development and self-actualization. \nJason Mathena: is a versatile\, creative\, and energetic performer both as a freelance ensemble and solo artist as well as a member of various orchestras and other ensembles. Currently\, he is Assistant Principal Percussion/Principal Drum Set with the Mississippi Symphony and Opera Mississippi and Principal Percussion of the Endless Mountain Music Festival and Natchez/FestivalSouth Chamber Orchestra. \nVeronica Parrales\, cellist and pianist\, is a native Nuyorican from Loisaida. She attended both Manhattan School of Music and Purchase Conservatory for cello performance\, and completed graduate studies at Empire State College\, Hunter College\, and Rutgers University. Over the past decade she has served as the principal cellist of the Mississippi Symphony\, assistant principal at Baton Rouge Symphony\, and ballet accompanist at Belhaven University. \nIn 2012\, Andrea Veneziani released Oltreoceano\, which marks his debut as a leader. The album explores the classic formula of the jazz piano trio from a contemporary perspective\, combining elements of both European and American music culture. Oltreoceano\, which translates from Italian as “overseas”\, displays Veneziani’s ability to balance a studied approach to music with a more instinctual understanding of the music language. The result is a recording that exhibits a high degree of interplay\, dynamic contrast and lyricism. “Andrea’s music is very melodic\, his playing is also from the heart” says Kenny Werner\, renowned pianist featured on Oltreoceano. The album has been distributed worldwide and has received international critical acclaim\, attaining recognition as one of the best releases of the year by many jazz publications\, including the prestigious magazine Jazziz. Radio France and several American radio networks have also internationally broadcast some of the album’s original compositions written by Andrea Veneziani. In 2023 he released his second album as a leader\, The Lighthouse. \nEve Zanni is an original jazz voice\, warm and expressive with a sensual musicality…traversing the primal depths of great jazz standards and original compositions in a blend of her unique arrangements that embrace classic jazz\, Brasilian\, Afro-Cuban\, Celtic and Middle-eastern rhythms….all sung with passion and romantic soul.\nEve also tours\, records\, in the U.S.\, the Caribbean and Europe. Eve’s Swing vocal trio “The Sweethots” ; are mentioned in Will Friedwald’s book Jazz Singing as the “best of its kind” and The Ella Fitzgerald Biography by Stuart Nicholson. Eve Zanni’s contribution as a vocalist and lyricist/composer of Lester Young solos are acclaimed in Dr. Henry Daniels’ book\, Lester Leaps In and she is listed in Lewis Porter’s new Jazz Encyclopedia.
