SUMMARY:Music\, Poetry and Dance from Yeats' Ireland
DESCRIPTION:Tues Oct 27\, 2026 at 7pm \nWestbeth Community Room\n155 Bank St\nenter through courtyard and under scaffolding\nNew York\, NY 10014 \nFREE \nWith Westbeth performers:\nAlison Armstrong\, Terence Burk\, Dennis Fitzpatrick\, Beth Griffith\, Myung Suk Lee\, and Joel Rooks. \nW. B. Yeats (1865–1939) was an Irish poet\, playwright\, and one of the major literary figures of the 20th century. Born in Dublin\, he spent much of his childhood in County Sligo\, which deeply influenced his imagination and poetry. \nYeats was a central figure in the Irish Literary Revival\, helping to establish a distinctly Irish literary culture. He co-founded the Abbey Theatre in Dublin and wrote plays as well as poetry. His early work drew heavily on Irish mythology\, folklore\, mysticism\, and romantic symbolism. \nAs he grew older\, his poetry became more direct\, political\, and philosophically complex. His best-known poems include “The Lake Isle of Innisfree\,” “The Second Coming\,” “Sailing to Byzantium\,” and “Among School Children.” He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923.
