DESCRIPTION:Friday July 7\, 2023 at 7P\nWestbeth Community Room\n155 Bank Street\nenter through courtyard\nNew York\, NY 10014 \nWestbeth Artist Residents Council sponsor musical events with Westbeth MusicWorks on the first Friday of every month to present Westbeth musicians and their friends in live concerts with free admission. \nTheo Bleckmann is a multi GRAMMY® nominated vocalist\, composer and ECM recording artist who has recorded over 17 albums and collaborated with artists such as Ambrose Akinmusire\, Sheila Jordan\, Kneebody\, Ben Monder\, John Hollenbeck\, Phil Kline\, David Lang\, Ulysses Owens\, Bang on a Can All-Stars\, and\, most prominently\, with Meredith Monk since 1994.\nBleckmann has been interviewed by Terry Gross on NPR’s Fresh Air and appeared on the David Letterman show with Laurie Anderson. He has consistently appeared in top spots in DownBeat polls\, and is a recipient of the prestigious JAZZ ECHO award from the Deutsche Phono-Akademie in his native Germany. Most recently he released an album with the celebrated brass quartet ‘The Westerlies’\, toured Finland with the Oulu Symphony Orchestra and UMO Jazz Big Band performing his repertoire and own compositions.\nMost notably\, Pulitzer-Prize-winning composer David Lang wrote a monodrama for Theo Bleckmann which was commissioned by the Japan Society and directed by legendary actor/director Yoshi Oida. His latest album “Anticipation” was Downbeat Editor’s Pick: “Smith…has power and a beautiful tone on his instrument\, and he’s a find composer too.” (Frank Alkyer\, Downbeat). \nJason Jackson (Trombone): A regular member of the Grammy Award winning Vanguard Jazz Orchestra for over 10 years and the lead trombonist with the Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band for 7\, he’s worked with Ray Charles\, Charles Mingus Big Band\, Barry Manilow\, and James Brown just to name a few. \nNoah Bless (Trombone): Discography includes over 50 albums for various artists such as Paquito D’Rivera\, Mario Bauza\, Don Braden and Celia Cruz. He’s contributed to many world-class jazz and Latin orchestras including; Marc Anthony\, Spanish Harlem\, Duke Ellington\, Chico O’Farril and the Lincoln Center Afro-Cuban Orchestra. \nBobby Porcelli (Flute\, Alto Saxophone): One of Latin and Afro-Cuban jazz ́s most accomplished flautists and alto saxophonists. He played with Tito Puente for over thirty years\, in addition to the Tito Rodriguez Orchestra and the Machito Orchestra\, and is featured in the Mambo Kings movie soundtrack. \nTerry Goss (Baritone Saxophone): Has been heard with the likes of Ray Charles\, Wayne Newton\, Dionne Warwick\, Carol Channing\, Rich Little\, Mel Torme\, The Drifters\, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra\, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra\, and many more. DESCRIPTION:The second in a series of free concerts by Westbeth musicians!\nAndreas Brade from Stuttgart\, Germany\, moved to the US to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston\, earning a degree in jazz performance. After graduating with a masters in Modern American Music from Longy School of Music of Bard College\, Andreas moved to NYC. Andreas has performed and recorded in many different setting from Jazz\, African and African Caribbean\, Improvisational\, Latin Jazz\, Musicals and Funk/R&B. He performed at festivals and venues such as the Montreal Jazz Fest\, The Kennedy Center\, Boston Symphony Hall\, The Blue Note\, and NJPAC to name a few. Andreas has composed music for Cornfield Dance for over ten years and worked as accompanist for Martha Graham\, Mark Morris\, Paul Taylor\, Alvin Ailey\, and Joffery Ballet. Eve has played in and composed songs for film including the 2016 PBS documentary by Lily Rivlin; “Heather Booth: Changing the World”. \nEve Zanni’s JAZZMUNDO \nPassionate jazz vocals and arrangements with Brasilian\, Cuban\, Gypsy\, Middle-Eastern flavours; a singer-composer with sensual warmth\, wit\, wisdom\, groove \nEve Zanni is an original jazz voice\, warm and expressive with a sensual musicality…traversing the primal depths of great jazz standards and original compositions in a blend of her unique arrangements that embrace classic jazz\, Brasilian\, Afro-cuban\, and Middle-eastern rhythms….all sung with passion and romantic soul.\n. \nEve Zanni was born in California into a family of musicians and vocalists spanning several generations…(her father was one of The Harmonicats\, older brother played with Canned Heat\, Kaleidoscope\, Incredible String Band\, many more) performing and writing music and lyrics from childhood\, Eve left the U.S.A. as a teenager and wandered the globe\, living and performing for nine years in Europe.  \nSince returning to New York Eve began singing with big bands and her own vocal trio “The Sweethots”  – – mentioned in Will Friedwald’s book Jazz Singing as the “best of its kind” and The Ella Fitzgerald Biography by Stuart Nicholson. Eve Zanni’s contribution as a vocalist and lyricist/composer of Lester Young solos are acclaimed in Dr.Henry Daniels’ book\, Lester Leaps In and she is listed in Lewis Porter’s new Jazz Encyclopedia. \nEve leads her own ensembles; (JAZZMUNDO\, THE SWEETHOTS) as well as performing with many jazz greats including: The Cab Calloway Orchestra (led by Cab’s grandson\, Calloway Brooks) Barry Harris\, Norman Simmons\, Jerome Richardson\, “Big Nick” Nicholas\, Walter Bishop\, Jr\, Benny Powell\, Richard Wyands\, Cafe\, to name a few.\nEve Zanni writes original lyrics to Lester Young compositions and solos and organizes The Lester Young Memorial Celebration every March; held at St.Peter’s Church at 54th and Lexington Avenue in Manhattan (New York\, USA).\nPerforming and teaching vocal music and song-writing in New York City Schools\, Eve also tours\, records with her own groups and as a back-up singer; travelling in the U.S.\, the Carribean and Europe. \nVocal Director of SingTime Sessions at Westbeth – a weekly community choral programme. \nOriginal composition GYPSY WAVE DANCE by Eve Zanni was selected as a feature on TENNJAZZ available on Imaginary Records\, wrote and recorded  Womanstrong for 2016 PBS documentary Heather Booth: Changing the World by Lily Rivlin. \n \n  For information on Peter Bernstein Trio who inaugurated the series\, LINK HERE.
