SUMMARY:Imprints of Becoming: Traces\, Temporalities\, and the Unfixed Paradise
DESCRIPTION:18 September–4 October 2026 \nCurated by Francesca Marcaccio \nPrivate View: Thursday\, 17 September 2026\, 6:00 pm \nOpening hours: Wednesday to Sunday 1-6pm \nImprints of Becoming: Traces\, Temporalities\, and the Unfixed Paradise brings together nine artists whose practices explore transformation as an ongoing condition. \nCurated by Francesca Marcaccio\, the exhibition brings together photography\, sculpture\, sound\,\ninstallation\, and performance to consider how bodies\, memories\, histories\, and\nenvironments are continually shaped by time and encounter. \nFeaturing Svetlana Bailey\, Marianne Bjørnmyr\, Rachelle Bussières\, Jenny Calivas\, Simone\nDouglas\, S. Emsaki\, Stephanie Hanes\, Maria de Victoria\, and Nina Schuiki\, the exhibition\napproaches artworks as sites of change rather than fixed objects. \nAcross the exhibition\,processes of melting\, erosion\, burial\, immersion\, growth\, disappearance\, light\, and sound become ways of exploring how experience leaves material traces. At the centre of Imprints\nof Becoming is the idea of “haptic archaeology”—an excavation through touch\, pressure\,\nimmersion\, light\, and sustained attention. Matter becomes a recording surface\, while the\nbody functions as both sensor and archive. The artists engage with time on multiple scales.\nS. Emsaki combines ancient clay with contemporary marine debris\, bringing geological\nhistory and environmental crisis into dialogue. Svetlana Bailey and Stephanie Hanes evoke\nthawing\, erosion\, germination\, and growth\, while Nina Schuiki works with glass\, wax\, and\nlight to create forms suspended between past\, present\, and future.\nQuestions of body\, place\, and memory emerge through Jenny Calivas’ exploration of burial\nand immersion and Marianne Bjørnmyr’s investigation of how history becomes embedded in\nmaterial and geographical forms. Rachelle Bussières works with light and absence\, creating\nluminous photograms that reveal what remains when the physical object disappears. Maria\nde Victoria introduces the living body through performance\, exploring presence\, duration\,\nand encounter.\nThrough light\, celestial phenomena\, salt\, and sound\, Simone Douglas connects terrestrial\nexperience to larger cosmic and environmental rhythms\, treating landscape as a resonant\narchive shaped by memory\, silence\, and vibration. Together\, the works propose a world\ndefined not by fixed identities or completed histories\, but by continual processes of\nbecoming. Imprints of Becoming asks what persists\, what dissolves\, and how bodies\,\nplaces\, and histories continually leave their mark upon one another.\nThe exhibition’s “unfixed paradise” is not an idealised destination\, but a condition that\nemerges through relation\, attention\, and transformation. It invites viewers to consider how\nwe are shaped by the world around us—and how\, in turn\, we continually imprint ourselves\nupon it. \nArtists: Svetlana Bailey\, Marianne Bjørnmyr\, Rachelle Bussières\, Jenny Calivas\, Simone\nDouglas\, S. Emsaki\, Stephanie Hanes\, Maria de Victoria\, Nina Schuiki.
