He began his career as a musician in Montreal before moving to New York City\, where he spent ten years as bassist for two legendary tenor saxophonists\, Dewey Redman and David “Fathead” Newman. This experience provided a solid foundation for Menegon to continue his explorations as a bandleader\, composer and arranger\, and he has been composing and arranging music throughout his career. Menegon has released 6 recordings as a bandleader\, and his latest recording\, SOUND EMBRACE\, was released in 2024 on Valley Jazz Records. It features Jean-Michel Pilc on piano\, Chet Doxas on sax\, and Jim Doxas on drums. It is produced by Westbeth Artists Residents Council\, and hosted by Robert Bunkin\, artist and curator. \nJonathan Bauch sculptor Jis a New York City native\, who began his artistic career as an abstract painter\, graduating from Parsons School of Design and later studying at NYU and SVA. Following his need for more interaction and movement in his work\, his artistic focus evolved from painting to sculpture in the late 1960s. He worked with different sculptural materials\, such as wire mesh\, plaster and aluminum until 1996\, when he began working in steel and found a comfort in the medium and a freedom in both technique and composition he had not previously experienced. \nPele Bauch is an interdisciplinary choreographer who weaves dance\, theater\, and installation design into unique performances. Bauch’s work has been selected for presentation at many New York venues. She has received residencies from The Joyce Theater Foundation; Dance Theater Workshop; Chocolate Factory; and 92Y Harkness Dance Center. Funders include the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council; Brooklyn Arts Council; and Harkness Foundation for Dance. Trained as a modern dancer\, Bauch draws from additional studies in fine arts\, Oli (Hawaiian Chant)\, and Hula\, as well as from her Hapa Haole Kanaka Maoli (multi-racial Native Hawaiian) heritage. \nLilly Rivlin is an American- Israeli journalist\, writer\, and filmmaker in the genre of documentary/ political films on women’s issue. Middleton’s debut recital at the Weill Hall at the prestigious Carnegie Hall was presented by Artists International Inc. In addition to the music of J.S. He has toured Taiwan\, Switzerland and South Africa among other countries. In 2021 Middleton received the Mae L. He visited concentration camps in Berlin and Vienna. “In America if you were Black\, you were a slave\, you picked cotton and sugar cane and that was it\,” said Arnold. “But to see how the Germans built these camps/houses with sinks and toilets and wash basins for people that you were going to annihilate– to me\, it made no logical sense.” Despite facing his own share of systemic barriers and societal prejudices\, his work conveys a sense of activism and empathy\, calling for a dialogue that bridges the past to the present. \nMei-Yin Ng Focusing initially on modern movement as inner being\, Ng’s work continues to evolve with the possibilities of contemporary technologies. Her extensive prop training in Chinese dance inspired her to meditate on the use of props\, and later technology\, as an extension of the human form. She founded MEI-BE WHATever in 2002 as a collective field for collaboration and experimentation of technology in just this vein. The obvious way to look at Borders is as it relates to geographic demarcation and via socio-political implications\,however\, the artists in this exhibition take it one step further examining Borders that confound and limit us personally; Borders to be psychologically challenged\, broken through and/or accepted.\nCrossingBorders: WE ARE ALL IMMIGRANTS poses the question\, “Where can we find a safe haven?”\nWith immigration looming large as a hot button item politically\, polarizing as well as unifying\, this exhibition will touch demonstrate the many ways artists create works that deal with this question.
